Grace's First Haircut!

Grace has beautiful hair but it grows soooo slow. We decided to take her for her first haircut just a few days before her 3rd birthday. She probably really didn't need one but her bangs had gotten too long so we wanted to get them trimmed.

At first Grace was not excited at the prospect of a haircut. When I told her we were going to get her hair cut so it wouldn't be in her eyes she said "No, it's ok. I just move my hair with my hands, no haircut." Then she tried the safety angle "You have to be very careful with scissors, we not need to use them on my hair."

When we went to Craig and Laura's house, we let Grace watch a video she had received from Stephanie, the Oswalds. We had no idea there was a portion that was about Henry getting a haircut. That did it. Right after she watched it, she told us she was excited to get her haircut like Henry because he got a lollipop when he was done. It's amazing what she'll do because of a cartoon and a lollipop ;o)

We made a big deal of the haircut and told her this was going to make her a big girl. She was very excited. She did great! Sat very still, was very serious but loved looking at herself in the mirror.

At the end she got a glitter star on her face and a certificate with her picture on it since this was her first cut. And...a lollipop!

The best part was when she got home- she took the "big girl" very seriously. She wouldn't let me take her to the potty- she did it all by herself, from start to finish. She wouldn't wear a pull-up for her nap (which was fine, she hasn't had an accident in a month and even makes it through the night) and at dinner, decided she wanted more to eat and reached for the serving spoon and served herself. All be "she was a big girl, she had gotten a haircut."
