Loss of Innocence

IMG 1234

It's interesting to find this picture on my computer and see the date is April 26th.  I remember it well.  We had a good coupon for this local restaurant so we decided to take a break from cooking and check it out.  Jack and i split this huge stuffed hamburger and talked about the "big storm" we heard was coming the next day.  We speculated with the waitress that it was probably a lot of hype for nothing.  Eating this burger was our biggest worry...

And we all know now how wrong we were.  Our neighborhood was actually hit by the morning tornado.  It went right through our neighborhood, literally.  Our sweet next door neighbors lost their home to the one tree in their yard.

The neighborhood was surreal.  No one could come or go for a whole day- this was our street-

We met a lot of neighbors since everyone was wandering around trying to help each other- but not the way you want to meet people.  Jack walked over to our friend Erin and Tad's home and was stopped by the police to help them get a trapped man out of his home.

Jack's dad brought us his generator (since we obviously weren't going to have power for quite some time) only to be caught on the road during the horrible Tuscaloosa tornado that none of us will ever forget.

It was nice to see how the community bonded together with picnics and neighbors just walking down the street handing out food and water for weeks.  We tried to do our part but it never seemed like enoughIMG 1254

The girls will never take a wind storm lightly.  None of us will again.  Our hearts remain heavy
